The way you spend your morning sets the stage for the remainder of your day and can lead to improved productivity. The hOMies shared some of their favorite morning rituals to ground themselves before a long day of teaching and running the behind-the-scenes operations at hOM. Hydration Reach for that glass of water first-thing. Your body needs to rehydrate after all of those dormant hours in order to recharge your physicality. Our hOMie Taylor goes straight from bed to the tap for glass after glass, while Christa keeps a full glass of water at her bedside throughout the night to hydrate as soon as her eyes open! Both rituals are effortless and effective! Yoga & Meditation Many experts believe that yoga should be practiced first thing in the morning, as it prepares the body and mind for the day ahead. Even a shortened practice can yield in great benefits. Full-time hOM teacher, Olivia, sticks to a 20 minute yoga sequence followed by a seated meditation to ground her before a day of teaching. Evelyn begins in prayer, reads her morning devotional and does a short yoga flow. Coffee Ah, the sweet smell of coffee and a jolt of caffeine surely will get you going. Though drinking coffee may have become a routine of running in and out of Starbucks in the AM, our hOMies recommend sitting down with your cup of joe for savoring. Kira likes to wake up slowly with her cup of coffee and sit quietly while she drinks it, even if it means waking up at 5am to have extra time to herself for this ritual. Christa enjoys preparing her coffee with a process that requires attention, grinding whole beans, boiling hot water, and waiting quietly and patiently for the french press to steep. Journaling If words aren't coming to you first thing in the morning, Alex is a big fan of two products by the company "Intelligent Change" that help him stay motivated. The Productivity Planner keeps you organized and on top of your to-do list, and the 5-Minute Journal helps cultivate gratitude, and be proactive in ways so that you can make each day awesome. Digital Detox All of our hOMies mentioned that they wait to check e-mails until after their morning rituals. This eliminates the immediate stress of your to-do list and allows you to decide the tone in which the day will continue. It also gives you more "me-time" that you might not get once you dive into your work. So go easy each morning and find which of these work best for you.
