Light is Powerful Stuff

Light is the finest form of energy. It helps us stay happy, get warm, transmit information, charge batteries, and best of all, party (I'm looking at you, Mr. Fourth of July Pyro). Just like everything else in the universe, it's got to be in balance.

Too little light is no fun.
It's associated with depression (seasonal affective disorder), sleepiness, ignorance, and that old 1850s fallback villain- immorality. Lack of sunlight exposure can lead to Vitamin D deficiency in humans- which bodies need to fortify bones, immunity, and heart health. It's important to get some of the sun's plentiful UV rays every day.

Too much light is not so good, either.
Recent studies show overexposure to UV radiation, even with sunscreen on, damages your skin's DNA. That's why you burn- your skin's cells get confused and shaken up from what they're supposed to be doing. Wild, right?
Moderation, that old stand-by, seems to be the way to go. The middle road of balancing too much with too little has another name around these parts- yoga. Creating harmony among all the activities in your life: family, friends, work, rest, exercise, and diet; could be called the 'yoga' of living. Plenty of great things happen when the light is just perfect: the "golden hour" in movie-making, solar flares (a la J.J. Abrams), rainbows, festive twinkling decorations, and that extra special mood lighting you and your one use to get close.

How do you balance it all to find harmony? Have any tips and tricks to notice too much or too little light in your life? Share it with us!
