New Year's Dream Mapping

Sankalpa It’s like planting a little seed of intention within yourself and tucking it away in your heart to incubate for the rest of the year. As one might set a dedication or purpose for a yoga class, we can set a sankalpa for our lives to spark action.

Digging deeper than a resolution, which may have negative connotations, a sankalpa is purely positive. It can be something as simple as a mantra such as, “I choose joy.”  It is a phrase that you can live by and have tucked away in your back pocket to check in with whenever you need.
In choosing your sankalpa for the New Year, try sitting quietly with yourself and a pen and paper (no erasing) and think about your goals for 2016. Think about the concrete milestones you want to hit, the titles, the travels, the money, the socializing, the weight loss and then strip it all away. Strip away anything that you can quantify and look at what you have left.

What is at the core of your desires for this year?

Whatever comes to mind first, write it down. Even if it seems “stupid,” even if it doesn’t make sense to you at the time--Write it down. Tuck it away. I mean physically tuck it away somewhere you will not lose it. Then come back to it in a week, a few weeks and see how it starts to gain significance in your life. You might surprise yourself.

XO, AG
