Spaces that Inspire: ACE Hotel

As yoga teachers in NYC we have a bit of a nomadic lifestyle, sherpa-ing our laptops, meals and changes of clothes on our backs, ready to teach in all corners of the city. Very soon our company will have an office and we’ll have a hOMbase from which to work, but until then I’m still finding my favorite spots for coffee and wifi.
ACE Hotel, NOMAD: The perfect adult study hall.

Cozy up in one of the oversized armchairs or share a couch with a stranger, log into the free wifi and chip away at your self-imposed workload. You don’t have to feel guilty about spending an afternoon here--it was designed with functionality in mind. This space is full of entrepreneurs and out-of-towners trying to get work done in between meetings and I definitely overheard a Tinder date last time I was there.
Lighting is dim and moody with high ceilings and checkerboard tiles, the library vibe is clinched by the long study tables lined with green Banker’s lamps. There’s a bar in the back and little bites to nibble, eliminating your workday to date night commute, should you so choose. For the daytime fare, Stumptown Coffee is attached to the hotel so you can order your latte in and enjoy one of their pastry poptarts (HUGE upgrade from those cardboard ones we used to eat as kids).

Working here gives you the feeling that you’re back in college, but in a good way. You’re surrounded by intelligent folks running their own businesses and you’re all jamming away together. Some of us love the independence of working for ourselves, but when you’re craving a buzzing atmosphere, this is the spot.
