The Story We Tell Ourselves

1/13/2016

Our thoughts are just as powerful as our actions and words, if not more so. The story we tell ourselves about ourselves creates the inner projection that manifests into our reality.

If you tell yourself that you’re not strong enough, you won’t be. If you tell yourself that something is outside of your comfort zone, it is. If you believe you will never get promoted, you won’t.

The same goes for positive self-talk. If you tell yourself that you are worthy of being loved, you will be. If you tell yourself that you are beautiful, you will smile more, your energy will lift and you will know that you are beautiful. And so on.

But perhaps you already know all of this. What you might not realize is that every little word affects your perception of yourself and your reality. Every ounce of negativity, doubt and fear impacts you. This is not to make you paranoid or OCD! Just—aware.

Become aware of your inner dialogue, your word choice, the way that you frame your thoughts inside your mind and the ones that you choose to voice. It is a 24/7 commitment and there will be moments, many moments, when you will find yourself indulging in negative self-talk.

See if you can notice it first, without judgment, and offer a more positive way of thinking. For example: Instead of saying “I can’t do that yoga pose.” Say, “I know I can do that pose, I am working on it.”

Only you can decide which thoughts to commit to and which to let go. Choose the good ones!
